Sustainability. You need to “get it” before you buy it. You need to know what it looks like, what it feels like before you understand why it is so important to build green. More on why build green...
Everyone, including students and professionals, comes to the Sustainable Construction Centre to see how the pieces fit together and to touch what green construction feels like. Exhibits and products on display are selected by an independent jury: professionals from universities, research institutes and industry organizations. The Sustainable Construction Centre is not a trade show or hardware store where shelf placement has a price. Products on display reflect the greenest technology available for new construction and renovations. Green construction is shown full-size and assembled in a way that models the best sustainable building practices. Clear panels explain how it all works. Visitors can experience what green construction feels like. We believe that energy conservation and sustainability are achieved by using fewer products more wisely, not more stuff. Green is built into a structure, not added as extra layers. More on our values and principles... We believe that when youth learn what's under their house and how waste energy can be re-used, they will invent new solutions and contribute to Canada's green economy. More on economic benefits... The Sustainable Construction Centre is the ideal meeting place for architects, builders and their customers to discuss the pros and cons of competing systems. We offer an extensive resource library, meeting rooms and a learning centre for the public and the construction industry. A special display area showcases emerging products, innovative construction projects and traveling exhibitions. Check our calendar of events for details... Vancouver’s Sustainable Construction Centre is the first of its kind in North America. It will serve as a model for future centres in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and major US markets. The Sustainable Construction Centre Society (SCCS) promotes sustainable planning, design and construction as the new normal. In addition to its oversight of the Sustainable Construction Centre, the SCCS Board advocates for updated regulations that facilitate green construction. The SCCS actively builds awareness of sustainable practices through annual sustainable construction awards, lecture series and educational events sponsored throughout the region. Sustainability:
a state of mind "Our goal is to showcase the best and greenest technology and products with displays that reflect the latest construction practices. After our guests have had a chance to touch and experience what green construction feels like, they will make better decisions in their home and work. They will choose durable over flashy, energy-miser over power-waster and minimalist rather than complicated. Each child coming through our centre will know what's under the house and how to bring the sun's energy in.” |
